Hello and welcome to The Pause!
The year has begun slowly for me, and I am feeling relaxed and ready for what’s to come, but for many, the beginning of a year often comes with a lot of noise.
Pressure to improve. Pressure to decide. Pressure to move faster than our bodies or our attention are ready for.
So before 21 Creative begins, I wanted to pause here and share the structure that holds this journey as a way to orient ourselves toward something more sustainable than New Year’s resolutions and unattainable goals.
You may have heard of challenges like 75 Hard and other intense frameworks designed to help you focus or become a “better” version of yourself, but as you know, I’m much more interested in soft things.
21 Creative grew out of that curiosity: a soft way to stay connected to creativity through the ups and downs of life. I’ve been testing this approach for the past few weeks, and it’s been surprisingly supportive.
At the heart of 21 Creative are four creative anchors:
journaling
reading
movement
focused creative work
These anchors are invitations that can shift, expand, shrink, or move around your day. Some days they’ll feel accessible and clear. Other days, they’ll feel quieter, almost imperceptible.
Both belong.
The anchors, explained
Twenty-one days is often cited as a meaningful window to begin shaping a habit of establishing contact with something new. With that in mind, here’s my invitation for the next three weeks.
Not to overhaul your life, not to do everything every day, but to return, again and again, to a few steady points of contact.
