5 in 5 Yoga Challenge | Day 5: Release
Let Go of Tension and Celebrate Yourself – A 5-Minute Releasing Yoga Routine
Hello sweet friend,
Welcome to Day 5 of the 5 in 5 Yoga Challenge.
You’ve made it to the end of the challenge! 🎆🎉🎊
I'm so glad that you're here, whether you’ve kept up, you’ve skipped a day, or you‘re just joining!
How was Day 4? And how was the challenge?
Did you find 5 minutes in your day to get on your mat, or at least pause and take a breath, even if it was just once this week?
Day 5: Release
The final theme of this yoga challenge is RELEASE.
How do you let go of physical tension, emotional stress, and mental clutter?
Learning to Let Go
In yogic philosophy, the concept of release is deeply intertwined with the practice of non-attachment or Aparigraha.
Aparigraha is one of the five yamas, or ethical guidelines, in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.
If you want to learn more about the Yamas and Niyamas stay tuned, I will dive deep into this topic later this year.
Aparigraha teaches us the importance of letting go of our attachments, whether they are physical possessions, emotional burdens, or limiting beliefs.
Here are some key principles of Aparigraha:
Let go of the need to accumulate and hold onto material possessions. Recognize that true contentment comes from within, not from external objects.
Releasing your attachment to outcomes and expectations (on yourself and others).
Accepting life’s impermanence and the natural flow of change.
Giving freely without expecting anything in return.
I invite you to regularly reflect on what you are holding onto and why. Use self-inquiry to identify and release fears, insecurities, and attachments that no longer serve your highest good.
6 Simple Ways to Release
Learning to let go is a skill that can be developed with practice. Here are some simple ways to start:
Practice Mindfulness: Spend a few minutes each day sitting quietly and observing your breath and your thoughts without judgment.
Journal Regularly: Use journaling prompts to explore what you need to let go of and why. This can help you gain clarity and perspective.
Engage in Physical Activity: Physical movement, whether it's yoga, walking, or any other form of exercise, can help release stored tension and stress in the body. Pay attention to how your body feels and where you might be holding onto tension.
Declutter Your Space: Take some time to go through your belongings and donate or discard items that no longer serve you.
Set Boundaries: Learning to say no and setting healthy boundaries is a crucial part of letting go. Identify areas in your life where you are overcommitted or where relationships are draining your energy, and take steps to create more balance.
Practice Self-Compassion: Be gentle with yourself as you learn to let go. Understand that it’s a process, and it’s okay to take small steps. Celebrate your progress and be kind to yourself when things don’t go as planned.
Day 5 Movement Practice: 5 Minute Flow
Today's 5-minute practice is a soft and nurturing ground sequence to celebrate yourself and let go.
This quick yoga session will invite you to find space for new energy, creativity, and peace as you nurture yourself with gentle postures for a few minutes.
It is of course perfect for the end of your day, but it could also be wonderful for any time when you want to take a moment to soften.
I hope you enjoy your 5 minutes of release, and let me know how it went for you and how it impacted the rest of your day!

Here are today’s prompts:

What emotions or thoughts have I been holding onto that no longer serve me? How can I begin to let them go?
If I could let go of one thing weighing me down, it would be...
You can choose one of the prompts or do them all, whatever resonates with you today, and what fits into your day.
