4 Ways to Boost Your Health and Strengthen Connections Through Yoga
Simple tips for a healthy lifestyle on the go 💛
Happy World Health Day sweet friend!
Every year, the WHO celebrates this occasion on April 7th, and this year’s chosen theme is “My Health, My Right”.
It's a powerful reminder that you have the inherent right to maintain and improve your health—not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too.
So, how can we exercise this right, especially when our schedules are packed and our environments are challenging? (and also when our health systems are corrupt and broken? but that is a can of worms I will open another day🙃).
I unfortunately (or not) found out how important health was in my mid-twenties, when, as an active and fit professional athlete, I was diagnosed with a chronic illness.
Since that diagnosis, I've come a long way thanks to the professionals I've worked with and the people that I've met along the way who shared with me tools that I use consistently to this day.
I've learned that I needed to slow down and that integrating small, sustainable practices like yoga, meditation, and breathwork into your daily life can make a substantial difference, especially during challenging times.
I also learned that you cannot know how healthy or how well someone feels just by the way they look, but this too, is a subject for another day.
Drawing from these experiences, I've honed a few key practices that you can use to support your health.
Engaging in Small Sustainable Practices
Yoga (which means to yoke, to come together) has sustained me through the ebbs and flows of my health condition and my life.
So in honor of World Health Day, here are some of my favorite accessible practices to boost your health:
#1 Meditate Daily for Emotional Balance
Whether it's morning, noon, or night, finding time to meditate can significantly lower stress levels and improve your emotional equilibrium.
Don’t think of it as another thing you have to add to your to-do list but as a small break to recalibrate and recenter.
Try this simple 5-minute Meditation for Realignment that you can do anytime, anywhere, and can help you boost your focus and mental clarity!
#2 Write Often to Reflect and Grow
Make it a habit to write regularly, whether it's journaling about your meditation or about your day, documenting your thoughts and feelings, or simply capturing moments you're grateful for.
Writing can be a therapeutic activity that helps you process your experiences and clarify your thoughts.
Try setting aside a few minutes each day (if possible, at the same time every day) to write, which can also enhance your self-awareness and support mental health.
Here is a journaling prompt to get you started:

#3 Take Breaks to Move and Rejuvenate
Incorporate short movement breaks into your daily routine to keep your body active and your mind sharp.
Every hour if possible, take a few minutes to stretch, walk around, or do some quick yoga poses.
This helps reduce physical strain from sitting and being sedentary and boosts circulation, refreshing your energy levels.
Simple stretches or a brief walk can significantly improve your physical health and increase productivity!
